Brewers Finish the Regular Season with a 11-5 Victory

LONGMONT, CO (February 13th, 2015) Avery Brewing FC finished their regular season with a 11-5 victory over the Rocky Mountain Bighorns from Colorado Springs in a game that featured a handful of highlight reel goals.  The win moves Avery to 7-1 overall.  The Brewers are champions of the PASL Rocky Mountain Division and will represent the league at Nationals in March.

The Brewers were on the back foot early as the Bighorns took a 1-0 lead midway through the first quarter.  Corey Cullen got things on track by using his strength to get around the goalkeeper and pass a ball into an open net to make it 1-1.  Shortly afterwards Avery took a 2-1 lead on a beautiful goal.  Captain Dan Campbell won the ball in midfield, played a pass of the side wall to Kyle Luetkehans who made a very slick back heel pass back to Campbell who hammered a first-time shot into the net.

The second quarter began with the Bighorns tying the game again 2-2.  Avery took the lead for good on a Kyle Luetkehans goal assisted by Josh Bennett. Kyle scored another goal to make it 4-2 heading into halftime. A huge first half saw him record 2 goals and 1 assist.

The Bighorns scored a goal but shortly afterwards a quick break for the Brewers saw them take the lead 6-3.  Corey Cullen led the break, played a ball to Ben Iiames who hammered a 1-time pass to the far post for Justin Geibel to tuck it into the net.  The Bighorns scored again to make it 6-4 but Dan Campbell scored right before the end of the 3rd period off an assist from Kyle Luetkehans to make it 7-4.

A big fourth quarter saw the Brewers score 4 goals.  The Luetkehans - Campbell combo struck again as Dan Campbell drilled a shot into the far side-netting.  Corey Cullen then scored a beautiful goal as he received the ball, did a slick scissor move, and ripped a shot into the net past the bighorns keeper to make it 9-4.  After the Bighorns scored another goal, the Ft. Collins Connection saw Zander Deitz open his Avery account with a goal scored from a Corey Cullen assist.  Danny Arrubla finished the scoring with a strong left-footed shot off a Temo Gonzalez assist.
